Methods: Qualitative study carried out at the Sexuality Outpatient Clinic of a University Hospital in Brazil, from December 2018 to September 2019. Twelve transgender women participated in the study. Orem's SelfCare Deficit Theory was used as a theoretical framework and the Appraisal of Self-care Agency Scale (ASA-A) was used to assess self-care ability. Results: There was a prevalence of women aged between 18 and 30 years (75.0%), mean age of 28 years, brown skin color (58.3%), complete high school and incomplete higher education (33.3%), student (50.0%), single (83.3%), agnostic (33.3%), income of 1 to 2 minimum wages (50.0%) and live with parents and relatives (50.0%). Most women have good self-care skills and are able to take care of and maintain well-being and quality of life. Conclusion: Self-care is effectively carried out with engagement and the need to adapt to different situations.
